Got PCB’s

Saturday, January 30th, 2010

I ordered the PCBs from www.batchpcb.com because the cost was great and I could order only 1 if I wanted.  Advanced Circuits you needed to order 4.  Any way I ordered 1 PCB for the Speed controller board and 2 of the Smart ipod dock PCBs.

After waiting about 3 weeks(guess) I got the boards and suprise, they doubled my order for free.  So I have extra’s if anyone wants one.

As you can see I started to assemble the Smart Dock board.  I’ll let you know how things progress.

Arduino-Iphone smart dock

My latest project(I wish I could stick to one at a time) is an Iphone dock for my 1999 Chevy Silverado Truck.  The factory stereo has an AUX input which was intended for external Cassette tape.  Yea, it’s that old.

Features:

1.  Charge Iphone

2. Play Audio through factory stereo AUX port

3. Optional video output

3. Mount in a way that does not look awful; but can be seen and used.

The hard part is #2.  The factory stereo has an AUX input; but it uses the Delco E&C data bus and won’t work unless you talk it’s language.  Information seems to be really limited on how to use it.  There are a couple companies that make products which cost $60-$140 and supposedly allow you to connect upto this port.  But I thought this is something that would make a great project for an Arduino.   I did find this guy doing some work on this as well.

#1 I ordered a USB charger for Iphone for $6.  No point in re-inventing that wheel.

Here is the preliminary Schematics, and Eagle Design files.  I haven’t built it you; but plan to maybe use either Advanced Circuits ‘Bare-Bones’ PCB or Batch PCB service since there are too many small holes for me to DIY.

Updated!  fixed some bugs in layout and went with SMT transistors.  aisd gerbers
